- Summary: Richmond Shakespeare present Doctor Faustus outdoors at the Theatre Agecroft Hall & Gardens, written by . "Closing out the Richmond Shakespeare Festival is Marlowe's Doctor Faustus. A brilliant but embittered academic, Faustus is a solitary scholar who has exhausted the confines of human knowledge. Frustrated with the futility of religion, law, and science he is desperate for a deeper understanding of the universe – and for the worldwide fame that it will bring. Risking everything, he conjures the demon Mephistophilis and asks him to strike a deal with Lucifer. Twenty four years of absolute knowledge and infinite power in exchange for his soul. Despite being tormented by doubt, Faustus agrees to the deal and signs in blood. But as he begins to revel in his new powers, the world around him starts to collapse and the clock inexorably counts down to the final moment of reckoning."

- Summary: Shakespeare Frankfurt presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe and directed by PJ Escobio, with Jonathan Roth as Faustus and Antonia Görge as Mephistophilis. "The original story of Doctor Faustus is found in German literature as early as the late 1500s. Shortly after its publication in German it was translated into English and was likely the inspiration and source material for Marlowe's Doctor Faustus. It was only a few hundred years later that Goethe created his masterpiece based on the same source material. We see Goethe's Faust performed every year all around the german speaking world, but Marlowe's Doctor Faustus is rarely produced here. We believe this is a rare opportunity for audiences and students to see the story told from a different perspective while still retaining the core concepts found in the original german legend. Our goal is to offer a progressive version of Marlowe's text that can be used to compare and contrast with the oft seen Goethe version. The core of this story is the question of opposites such as sin and redemption. It is a distinct look at an age in transition. So many of the themes revolve around contrasts, good vs. evil, Technology vs Magic, the future vs the past. It is a story about pettiness and abuse of power, something we see all to often in today's leaders. Our hope is to share a fresh and vitalized version of this wonderfully German-centric story."

- Summary: Dandelion Theatre presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe and directed by Max Ackerman, adapted by and starring James Llewellyn Evans as Faustus and Augusta "Gus" Monet (a.k.a. Coyote Ugly) as Mephistophilis. "This Halloween, Dandelion Theatre invites you to hell for Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, a play about dualities. God and Lucifer. Faith and Doubt. Loyalty and Betrayal. Good and Evil. Ambition and Regret. The play's titular necromancer is split down the centre of his soul, between a desire for magical power and terror at what will become of his immortal spirit. Dandelion’s production strips Christopher Marlowe’s tragedy down to a personal interplay between Doctor Faustus and Mephistopheles, the demon he conjures to serve him. Once the deal is struck, and Faustus has surrendered heaven for worldly pleasures, the two figures become all things to each other: mutual servants, lovers, enemies and friends, trapped in a dance that will last for all eternity. The show explores themes of codependency, anxiety, art and ambition as audiences are invited into a tour of one man's very personal hell, and the demon he shares it with. What the audience knows but Faustus cannot is that he is already damned, and all of this has happened before and will happen again, forever."

- Summary: The Fletcher Players Society presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe and directed by Atlanta Hatch, with Lara Cosmetatos as Faustus and Anastasia Joyce as Mephistophilis. "Doctor Faustus is irreverent, chaotic and riotous fun. In a post-theistic age, the play ask questions of the modern conception of humanism: is immortality an achievable goal in the 21st century? What constitutes personal fulfilment, and to what lengths will one go – and should one go – to achieve it? Faustus experiences hallucinogenic highs, balanced against moments of personal crisis and breakdown. With original compositions and jazz funk choreography, this show recollects something of the spectacular quality of the 'Marlowe effect' experienced by the play’s original audience. Embrace the chaotic world of Faustus' creation - and all its implications.."

- Summary: The student-run Nottingham New Theatre presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe, adapted and directed by Daniel McVey, with Morgan Beale as Faustus and Grace Williams as Mephistophilis. "After years of supressed feelings and being told "boys don't cry" Faustus is emotionally stunted. No more, he wants to feel again. He has tried various methods, but none have worked. So, when he finds a new book in his library, he can't see the harm in trying. But unbeknownst to Faustus, chaos and evil have been carefully placed between the pages and a tempest of devils have set their sights on his soul. And in the midst of this madness where is God? Why will they not save Faustus? Only one thing is for sure, damnation awaits you, Faustus. In this abstract adaptation, Marlowe's classic play is deconstructed and reassembled with scenes from other versions of the tale."

"Why this is hell, nor am I out of it. People are worried about Faustus. Anxious for knowledge, the arrogant scholar is led astray into what he thinks is a world of dark magic. It isn't long before his hallucinations take hold of him, and the evil spirit Mephistophilis forces him to sign his soul over to the devil. This production of Doctor Faustus uses physical theatre, originally composed music and is a modern adaptation."

He dreams of knowledge beyond the realm of men – of all things that move beyond the quiet poles, the mysteries of the universe, the secrets of kings; a knowledge that will lead to great power and eternize his legacy. This unquenchable desire for fame drives him to master the metaphysics of magicians and he summons the demon Mephistophilis. Despite his own doubts and Mephastophilis' warnings, the fated doctor demands he strike a deal with Lucifer – Faustus' soul for twenty-four years of omnipotence. Drunk with his new powers he travels the world gaining un-matched notoriety, the cost of which is infinitely high as the damned hour approaches. Tangle, South West England's African Caribbean theatre company, transpose this renaissance classic to our times. Music and song is interweaved with rousing performances from a trinity of actors in this unique version of Christopher Marlowe’s renowned tale."

- Summary: The Royal Shakespeare Company presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe and directed by Maria Aberg, with Sandy Grierson and Oliver Ryan playing Faustus and Mephistophilis. "Two actors enter. Each lights a match and watches it burn. Whoever's goes out first 'loses' and must play the fated doctor, while the other plays the demon Mephistophilis, in this notorious tale of vanity, greed and damnation. Faustus is a solitary scholar who has exhausted the confines of human knowledge. Frustrated with the futility of religion, law and science, he is desperate for a deeper understanding of the universe – and the fame it will bring. Risking everything, he conjures Mephistophilis and asks him to strike a deal with Lucifer. Twenty-four years of absolute knowledge in exchange for his soul. Transferring to London following its successful run at the Royal Shakespeare Company's home in Stratford-upon-Avon, Maria Aberg's punchy production updates Marlowe for our times with ritual, cabaret and carnival. Bristling 'with originality and vision' (Stage), it sees Sandy Grierson and Oliver Ryan share the roles of the doctor and the demon. Who will play Faustus when you see it?"

- Summary: The Jamie Lloyd Company presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe with new scenes by Colin Teevan, directed by Jamie Lloyd, and starring Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) as Faustus, Jenna Russell as Mephistophilis, and Jade Anouka as Wagner. "Praised for their innovative and anarchic reinvention of the classics, The Jamie Lloyd Company propels Christopher Marlowe's legendary tale DOCTOR FAUSTUS into the here and now in an explosive and magical new production starring Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) in his long-awaited return to the London stage. Faustus makes a pact with the Devil, selling his soul in return for the ability to perform absolutely anything he pleases with the power of black magic. This fatal decision catapults him into an intoxicating world of celebrity, as he becomes a world-renowned conjuror, international heartthrob and friend of the rich, famous and powerful. But what is the cost of his insatiable thirst for wealth and fame? With blackly comic new scenes by Colin Teevan and dynamic stage illusions, the story of this 400-year-old play is transported to a celebrity-obsessed society of greed and instant gratification, offering a fresh, new perspective that chimes with our times."

- Summary: The Independent Shakespeare Company presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe and directed by Melissa Chalsma, with Adam Mondschein as Faustus and Suzan Crowley as Mephistophilis. "Shakespeare isn't the only playwright with a 450th birthday this year! Join us in celebrating Christopher Marlowe's incredible contribution to the theater. Doctor Faustus is a brilliant and celebrated man whose intelligence is only eclipsed by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and power. This quest leads him to a dangerous bargain: he sells his soul to Lucifer for the power to practice the Dark Arts. With the demon Mephistopheles at his side, he becomes a globe-trotting, thrill-seeking celebrity. With a cast of characters that includes Helen of Troy, the Pope and all Seven Deadly Sins, Christopher Marlowe's play is sexy, funny, and as relevant as it was when he wrote it 425 years ago. May not be suitable for younger viewers."

- Summary: The Rose Playhouse on Bankside presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe and directed by Martin Parr, with Christopher Staines as Faustus. "To mark the 450th anniversary of the birth of Christopher Marlowe, this fresh, innovative adaptation of Marlowe's notorious tale once again casts its disturbing and terrifying shadow over The Rose Playhouse, Bankside where it was first performed 420 years ago. The infamous legend of the man who sells his soul to the Devil in exchange for 24 years of knowledge and power has never lost its ability to unsettle and shock. In this fast and furious production, we enter the mind of a man who, through narcissism, ambition and fatal curiosity, finds himself staring into the mouth of Hell, as The Rose, Bankside once again awakens the Devil and his legion of fallen angels. This production is directed by Martin Parr whose recent successes at The Rose Playhouse include Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet."

- Summary: The Classical Theatre Company presents Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe and directed by Philip Hays, with Adam Gibbs as Faustus and James Belcher as Mephistophilis. "A complex play exploring the complex nature of the relationship between man and God, The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus follows the story of a Doctor who, fed up with scholarly pursuits, sells his soul to the Devil in exchange for 24 years of knowledge and power. With a demon as at his beck and call and the dark arts at his disposal, Faustus travels the world satisfying his gluttonous need for power. His encounters with the likes of dragons, angels, Helen of Troy, and the Seven Deadly Sins, leads to both humorous adventures and heartfelt problems of faith and morality. In the end, introspection does little to save the good doctor and as his 24 years come to a close, the debt collector comes knocking."

Faustus is restless for knowledge and his insatiable desire for notoriety has driven him to make a pact with the Devil in return for the power to perform the black arts. This life-changing decision propels him into the heady world of the rich and famous as he becomes a globe-trotting magician to the stars. Finally, beautiful women pay him attention, celebrities want to be his friend, and he has the world at his feet to manipulate as he pleases. But was the price worth paying? In this darkly disturbing new production, Christopher Marlowe's mythic tale of mankind's greed for power gets a modern day twist as three of the original acts are played out with two specially commissioned new ones from Colin Teevan."

- Summary: Part of the Globe's 2011 The Word is God season, Doctor Faustus written by Christopher Marlowe and directed by Matthew Dunster with Paul Hilton as Faustus and Arthur Darvill as Mephistopheles. "Doctor Faustus, restless for knowledge, forsakes scholarship for magic and makes a pact with the Devil: if the evil spirit Mephistopheles will serve him for 24 years, Faustus will yield his soul to the Devil after death. It isn't long before Faustus has doubts about the bargain, but Mephistopheles has plenty of entertainment at hand to distract Faustus from the terrifying reality of his position and the prospect of its agonising conclusion. In Doctor Faustus, the greatest tragedy in English before Shakespeare, Marlowe puts some of the greatest poetry ever written for the stage and a good deal of anarchic comedy at the service of a mythic tale illustrating mankind's insatiable desire for knowledge and power. This will be the first production of Doctor Faustus at the Globe."

"Divinity adieu! These metaphysics of magicians, and necromantic books are heavenly! With these words Faustus launches into the world of supernatural horror. While known for many other works of brilliance, Christopher Marlowe's voice continually finds new life through the stagings of his most imaginative tale. Filled with devils, ghosts and necromancy, this June the words of Faustus are once again being uttered in the place of their initial life, The Rose Theatre on Bankside. Come and see this unrelenting and visceral production in the place where the devils were first summoned ... over 400 years ago!"

"This journey through temptation, magic, sin and despair, questions the true nature of power and the ultimate purpose and value of being human. Raw comedy and tragedy combine to reveal the story of a flawed and isolated man. Goold's adaptation of Christopher Marlowe's classic juxtaposes medieval Germany with modern London. As John Faustus seals his pact with the devil, in 21st-century Hoxton, contemporay artists Jake and Dinos Chapman prepare a controversial and provocative new work.."
